سنسور فتوالکتریک از ابزارهای تشخیص موقعیت است که تشخیص آن با استفاده از پرتوی نور مدوله شده است. این پرتو توسط شی منعکس شده و یا قطع می گردد. این سنسور از یک منبع انتشار نور، یک گیرنده برای کشف نور ارسالی و مدارات الکترونیکی برای تقویت سیگنال کشف شده جهت راه اندازی مدارات کنترلی تشکیل شده است.
